I love seeing the originals before someone colors them, so here’s the “pencils” for the Superman #300 homage I recently finished.
I knew I’d want to do two versions of this, so the quickest way I could think of to get that done was to just do the whole thing in Photoshop. Usually I like to use real pencils and inks for line work, as something done all on the computer usually has that sickly, sterile, digital feel, but I didn’t want to draw one, then trace it to make the other… And I didn’t want to venture out into the cold to get them scanned, so I just went ahead and slapped down some grey and filtered it a little.
Keeping the whole thing digital was handy for keeping the body structures and poses the same, then you’re just changing the clothes. And as fun as making Krypton explode is, it isn’t so fun that you want to turn around and do the exact same thing for the second version. Saves a lot of time, duplicating layers.
